I love to keep puff pastry dough in my freezer around the holidays. It makes for a flaky crust without all of the hard work of making it homemade. Puff Pastry Fried Apple Pies are the perfect little treat. Tender slices of sautéed apples with just the right amount of sweetness, laced with DivineKuizine sugar spice is a wonderful blend of warm spices (cinnamon, cardamon , nutmeg and more) all in a flaky puff pastry shell.

Prep Time: 30 minutes

  • Cook Time: 30 minutes

  • Total Time: 1 hour

  • Yield: 8 Pies


Ingredients:

Apple Filling

  • 2 Large apples, ( granny smith, gala)

  • ¼ cup white sugar

  • 4 tablespoon DivineKuizine sugar spice

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • Pinch of salt

  • 2 tsp Cornstarch and 2 tsp water

Assembly

  • 4 Frozen Puff pastry sheets

  • Neutral Oil, for frying ( I used peanut oil)


Instructions

Apple Filling

  1. Peel the apples and cut them into small cubes

  2. In a sauce pan add apples, sugar, DivineKuizine sugar spice , butter, apple cider vinegar, salt and butter. Over medium heat.

  3. Cook for 15 minutes, or until the apples have softened

  4. Add the cornstarch, stirring constantly until thickened

  5. Remove from the heat, cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge to chill completely


Assembly

  1. Remove the puff pastry from the freezer and thaw for 5 mins, until slightly softened

  2. Cut each puff pastry sheet into 8 equal rectangles

  3. Add apple filling down the center of 8 rectangles

  4. Top with another rectangle of puff pastry and use a fork to seal the edges

  5. Place in the freezer for 1 hour to chill

  6. Heat a heavy bottomed pot of neutral oil to 200C/390F

  7. Carefully lower the pies into the oil, be careful as they will splatter

  8. Fry three at a time, for 2-3 mins, turning halfway, until golden brown

  9. While hot roll the hand pies in DivineKuizine sugar spice

  10. Enjoy hot!
