This EASY French toast casserole with apple and raisins sweetened with DivineKuizine sugar spice can be baked right away, or make it ahead and refrigerate overnight. French toast casserole, you skip the hassle of standing by the stove and pan-frying each individual slice of French toast. Instead, you just throw everything into a dish and let the oven do the work!
Time: 45 mins Serves 4-6
Ingredients:
Loaf of French bread, I used a brioche loaf ;cut into cubes
powdered sugar for topping, optional
Maple Syrup
Whole Milk
Heavy Cream
Eggs
Vanilla Extract
Raisins
Apple
Butter
Make Custard:
1 cup whole milk
3/4 cup heavy cream
4 eggs
1/4 cup DivineKuizine sugar spice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
In a medium sized bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream ,vanilla, and DivineKuizine sugar spice.
Apple and Raisin Mixture:
1/3 cup raisins
1 apple
1 stick of butter
1/2 cup DivineKuizine sugar spice
In saucepan add above ingredients and saute for about a minute ; until DivineKuizine sugar spice dissolved.NOTE: do not overcook the apples. Apples need to still be a little firm.( have a bite).
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 13x9 inch baking pan and set aside. I used 8.25x8.
Pour the rich custard sauce made over thick pieces of bread. Insuring that all pieces of bread are saturated. Set aside for about 20 minutes or you can leave this bread mixture overnight.
Begin to Layer:In the baking dish begin to layer. Starting with a spoon full of apple and raisin mixture and then bread mixture. Repeat until all mixtures are all gone.
Bake in preheated 350 oven for 25 covered. Then up the temperature to 375 uncovered for 20 minutes . Remove from oven let it rest for about 2-3 minutes. Then sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired. Enjoy!
